The next soul on his list is James Langold a City worker who is finding the pressures of a big job just a bit too much to handle. Hiding in the pub from his wife and the stress of his job James meets a stranger who is just a little bit too weird for his liking. Annoyed by the stranger at first, James whole world is turned upside down when the stranger reveals himself as the Grim Reaper and shows James his impending Death. Faced with his own mortality Death gives James a choice if he can get home in fifteen minutes and kiss his wife his life will be spared, if he doesn’t Death will claim his Soul. A little about the Film
Date with Death originally started out as a three minute short set around the themes of Death and Love. It was to be focused purely around a mans journey to see his lover before he died. Edited out of order and set to the Cure’s track “All Cats are Grey” it was to be an experimental piece. But after playing around with the idea for quite a while I decided that there was more to this idea and that a story could be built around the concept of a mans journey to see his loved one before he dies. The main structure of the script came together fast and has remained basically the same throughout the script editing process. The first script was written as a black comedy full of dark humour and macabre themes, but as the script was edited and the characters fleshed out the scripts tone changed to something that was more serious the dark humour remained but the film gained more of poignancy to it and had a more sombre tone. The final script hopefully retains the dark humour and excitement but builds on that with some poignant themes about love and sacrifice.
